Zimmerman Farms

Zimmerman Farms is located in West Central Illinois, our primary location being Western McDonough County and Eastern Hancock County.  We have farms in Schuyler County as well.  Zimmerman farms is a family farm, comprised for four members; John, Jerry, Matt, and Steven.

 

John and Jerry Zimmerman are the 3rd generation farmers, while Matt and Steven are the 4th generation. As with most farms, we started out with our grandparents and great grandparents farming purely to grow food for their own families. Whatever they did not consume themselves was often traded for food they could not grow, such as fruits and spices. As the farm progressed it turned into a business and not just a means to survive. John and Jerry remember when farmers used horses to pull equipment and still often reminisce about plowing fields three or four feet at a time on open cab tractors , as compared with our largest tool today being 60ft wide.  We have been farming some pieces of land for over a hundred years! And many for over fifty years!

 

Today we use modern farming equipment and take advantage of available technology to maximize our productivity and overall yields. We use auto-steer technology to guide our tractors in the field to reduce over-lap and improve efficiency, we employ yield mapping to pinpoint less productive areas in fields, and we use auto-shutoffs on our sprayer to minimize waste.

 

We are firm believers in being good stewards of the land. This not only benefits us, but it guarantees a foundation for generations to come.  We believe in replacing the nutrients we remove from the fields, and using on the minimum amount of chemicals needed to produce a good harvest.

 

We are always interested in acquiring new farmland. If you or someone you know has farmland in our area, we would love to talk to you about teaming up and farming the land to its best potential. We are willing to rent/lease land in a variety of ways that best suit the landowner.
